kitty scratching culprit

Innocent Bingley
It is quite beyond me, why I seem to be the only one who appreciates the many and varied benefits of scratching. I try to do this as much as possible to keep my claws in optimum shape. I relish the release it gives me when I am excited about dinner time, or have just woken up. I also find scratching gets RESULTS. It is an excellent way of ensuring that Mrs H responds to my needs with a degree of immediacy.

Take night-time for example. I don't know HOW MANY times I have indicated to Mr and Mrs H that my preference is to sleep with them on the big bed upstairs. It started off this way but now I am expected to sleep downstairs, and that goes for my brother too. I mean, really!
Naturally, I have no alternative but to scratch the door for as long and as loudly as possible to alert them to the fact that I WISH TO SLEEP UPSTAIRS.
Apparently, Mrs H's viewpoint can be best explained through the following drawings by the remarkably talented Simon Tofield, in his book 'Simon's Cat' (drawings come from him and are all his, if you haven't discovered him yet, go and visit).

  1. Using our nails is essential! Especially to get up on the big bed.

  2. Dear Bingley, have you checked out the As Seen on TV emery scratching board? We got two the other day, in the mail, but I can't give you any feedback yet. I hope they work 'cause our kitties' nails are lethal and one of them hits me all the time.

  3. You are welcome to stay with us Bingley, we allow kitties to sleep on the bed at night and have stiff necks and sore backs to prove it. Scratching is also tolerated, however, we religiously clip claws to keep damage negligible. It's up to you :).

  4. We know what you're saying! We are allowed to sleep with our mom and dad, but sometimes they try to sleep in (we think we should be fed at, like 5:30 AM). Scratching the boxspring gets their attention...

I wanted to thank all of the Naughty Kitty Club members that came to my birthday party last week and helped me celebrate! Hope you all had a good time!!

  7. We don't understand why you aren't allowed to sleep on the bed - aren't the kitties always in charge, so therefore isn't it really your bed! We say keep up the scratching!

  8. You need to remind your humans that it's YOUR house and they're lucky you've given them a job and let them live there as your servants. You should continue doing whatever you need to do to get that point across.

  9. Oh, you silly! It's YOUR house! You do as you please. You should see what Scooter(RIP) did to our couch! We can actually crawl inside of it, the hole's so big!

  11. I do not scratch my hooman friends, but I will sniff and tap them if I need their attention.

  12. I have found that it conditions my nails if I scratch on blue jeans, too! I wonder why your humans don't appreciate your bedtime company?

  13. Bingley, suggest you claw your way up the bed to explain this issue clearly!
